Beyond Virtuoso
Beyond VirtuosoLast evening, Stephen Lang's Beyond Glory opened Off-Broadway at Roundabout's Laura Pels Theatre. This marks the Big Apple premiere for a larger than life performance by Lang, who is beyond breathtaking and anything but jingoistic.
Having caught Lang's gripping work in 2005 when the no-frills one-man play opened at Chicago's Goodman Theatre, I can tell you that I was completely blown away by Lang's virtuosity and straightforward honesty in capturing the essence of eight different men who served the American people via the United States military. He's even surprisingly entertaining.
I'm glad to see New York critics embracing it; even though their recommendations did little for the box office success of Journey's End, I'm hoping they spur the audience it deserves.
This is Steve On Broadway (SOB).
