The Lady Doth Protest Too Much, Me Thinks
The Lady Doth Protest Too Much, Me ThinksAs Sir Ian McKellen traverses the country with the Royal Shakespeare Company in repertory with King Lear and The Seagull, he's to be forgiven for occasionally wanting to grab a bite to eat with the locals.
Currently in Minneapolis at the Guthrie, McKellan tried getting into the restaurant next door only to be turned away. Seems the staff at Spoonriver had not a clue who he was -- that, despite the restaurant's online claim that it "complements its artistic neighbor." Apparently, it doesn't compliment its artistic neighbors at all.
A picture! A picture! My kingdom for a picture!

Well, I know mistakes happen, so I don't want to be too hard on the restaurant. But still, it seems to me that if you know Ian McKellen is performing nearby, and a distinguished gentleman with a British accent comes in and asks for a table ... Duh!!! I take it that the restaurant is pretty close to the theater, so the odds were pretty good he'd be stopping by! I mean, you'd think they would have been preparing for months, putting his picture up everywhere in the restaurant!
Esther, It seems to me that if you are a restauranteur purposely situated directly across from one of America's premiere theatres, you inform your team of who's who from said theatre.
A table! A table! My kingdom for a table!
