Getting Rid Of Unwanted Company
Getting Rid Of Unwanted Company
Hat tip to Sarah from Adventures in the Endless Pursuit of Entertainment. This well-connected blogger informed me less than an hour ago of the rumors that have now been confirmed that John Doyle's wonderful revival of Company will close July 1. This announcement comes less than 48 hours after the tuner won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.
Sadly, the tuner has only been attracting capacities of under 50% since mid-April. Without an apparent bump from its Sunday night win, the closing notices have been posted. When it finally closes, Company will have enjoyed 247 regular performances.
Regular readers will know that I rather liked this underappreciated tuner and thought Raúl Esparza was completely deserving of a Tony for his portrayal of Bobby. Here's hoping we'll see Esparza treading Broadway's boards again shortly.
If you haven't already seen Company, do yourself a favor and see it before this Stephen Sondheim/George Furth revival shutters July 1.
