Sunset No Longer Limited to Chicago: McCarthy Play Transfers to New York
According to a New York Times story, author Cormac McCarthy's The Sunset Limited -- first presented by Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre -- will transfer this October to the 59E59 Theatres with its cast of two intact. Austin Pendleton and Freeman Coffey will recreate their respective roles as a man who's given up on life and the man who saved him.
I found the original production to be quite compelling. In my earlier review from June 10, I stated, "This play set in real time examines the dramatically extreme divergent paths of hope and despair that two seemingly lost souls can take. The Sunset Limited brilliantly lets us see how close those two paths can sometimes come."
It's great that New York audiences will now be able to take in this thought-provoking play, which will run October 24-November 19, 2006.
