The Epitome Of The Word Trouper

The Epitome Of The Word Trouper

About as true to her role of Margo Channing as can be, apparently nothing is going to keep the amazing Christine Ebersole from her commitment to Applause at New York City Center Encores! this weekend. I only wish I could be there...

Talk about true star power. Miss Ebersole proves yet again that she's a consummate actress who believes that the show must go on. She has my utmost admiration and unflagging applause.

Now, here's to your good health!

This is Steve On Broadway (SOB).

Wow, you're right, what a total professional. I'm sure this is something that couldn't be easily rescheduled, so she went out and gave it her all. She really does epitomize "The show must go on!"

Esther, Wonder if that certain actress we thought we were going to see last summer saw this news. My guess is she didn't.

Steve, when I read this, I immediately thought of "She who must not be named." I just think that if you're not prepared to do the job, you shouldn't take it on. Obviously, I don't want anyone to work when they're seriously ill. I understand that people get sick and have accidents and planned vacations and emergencies. But Ms. Ebersole obviously knew that if she didn't go on, hundreds of fans would be disappointed. She felt an obligation toward them, and toward the people who put her in the show. Too bad all performers don't feel that way.

Esther, To be fair, "She who must not be named" was not a stage actress in the first place. While she has a huge following, she didn't seem to have the commitment and/or understand the grueling 8 performance per week schedule seasoned veterans readily accept and undertake. Goes to show you the perils of stunt casting.

It's 2:36 am. I'll be at City Center to La Ebersole as Margo in about 14 hours. I have no doubt in her.

Christine Ebersole was, indeed, fantastic! As you said, Steve, she is the epitome of a trouper. The house was full--she is such a draw and deserves every bit of praise that can be given.

Thank you, both Sarah and Judi. Glad to hear about your experiences! Wish I could have been there, too, but sometimes I have to live vicariously through folks like you!
