A Weekend In The Country

I'm off to the farmlands of Iowa this weekend to help celebrate the 60th wedding anniversary of G. Joe and Norma "Duffy" Lyon. So it seems entirely apropos to offer up a version of this Stephen Sondheim tune from A Little Night Music, even if it's from the 1977 film version.

Duffy (right), of course, is world renowned as The Butter Cow Lady from the Iowa State Fair (among others).

Next week, this inspiring Iowa icon will turn 81. So my weekend in the country will also include a well-timed birthday celebration. And to bring the post full circle, that makes Duffy just a tad senior to Mr. Sondheim, doesn't it?!

Happy anniversary, Joe and Duffy (and happy birthday, too)!
