One Night Only: Jennifer Holliday At Ars Nova

One Night Only: Jennifer Holliday At Ars Nova

With so much incredible buzz already steamrolling the country for what is arguably the year's biggest and mostly eagerly anticipated film -- "Dreamgirls" -- it's only fitting that one of the original Broadway cast members is making headlines of her own. Tony Award winner Jennifer Holliday is slated to perform this evening in the premiere of On, Girl at New York's Ars Nova as part of Uncharted: Lewis Flinn And Steven Sater.

Billed as "Dreamgirls meets Def Poetry Jam," tonight's performance is a "song cycle" from Steven Sater, who wrote the book and lyrics for Spring Awakening, and Lewis Flinn, who wrote original music and served as sound designer for The Little Dog Laughed. On, Girl will follow Holliday, along with Shayna Steele and Sharon Wilkins on a "journey of love, loss and getting on with it."

Oh that I could be there, but unfortunately, I'm telling you that I'm not going due to other prior commitments. But I can also tell you that there are few artists who have the power to move me via live performances the way Jennifer Holliday does. I'll just have to pin my hopes on a reprise performance at a later date.

This is Steve On Broadway (SOB).
