Time To Meet The Reaper: Grey Gardens Opens On Broadway

Time To Meet The Reaper: Grey Gardens Opens On Broadway

Earlier this year, one of the most talked-about shows in New York City was not on Broadway, but at Off-Broadway's Playwrights Horizons.

Grey Gardens reaped substantial praise and considerable buzz for telling the story of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis' aunt and cousin, Edith Bouvier Beale and Edie Beale, through the score by Scott Frankel and Michael Korie.

But the Grey Gardens that finally opens this evening on Broadway is a departure from the original. Sure, it still has Christine Ebersole and Mary Louise Wilson reprising the roles they created at Playwrights Horizons, but with five songs reportedly cut from the original and a few new ones added, one could argue that this is a musical reborn.

Will the critics still dig Grey Gardens? We'll find out tomorrow as the reviews are posted.
