Ann Harada to Reprise Avenue Q Role in London

Ann Harada to Reprise Avenue Q Role in London

The West End mounting of the Tony Award-winning Avenue Q just got better with the announced addition of my personal favorite original cast member, Ann Harada. She will return to the role she created first Off-Broadway and then on the Great White Way with her feisty Korean character, Christmas Eve. She was absolutely delicious stateside, particularly in production numbers like "It Sucks to Be Me" and "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist."

Don't get me wrong, original leads John Tartaglia and Stephanie D'Abruzzo were completely deserving of their Tony nominations, especially considering their puppeteering charms, but I always felt that it was Harada's outstanding supporting role that stood out. Somehow, she was shut out of the Tony nominations. Perhaps the Olivier Awards will give Harada her due. And to my London friends, make sure you plan a visit to Avenue Q once it opens on June 1.
