Can London Lord Capture Critical Ring?
With close to £12.5 million ($25 million) invested -- in part to support the 70 actors, singers and musicians -- director Matthew Warchus' stage musical adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord Of The Rings is gearing up for its June 20 opening at London's venerated Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
After being savaged by critics during its Toronto world premiere last year, can this stage adaptation be saved? Quite possibly, as Robert Sandall suggests in this morning's London's Sunday Times.
We'll know for sure in just one month.

Well, I'm not really a big Lord of the Rings fan. I did see the first movie, which I liked, but I haven't felt an overwhelming need to watch the other two. Still, there's a huge fan base, so I think it would have a lot of potential if they can fix up the problems.
Esther, While not a huge fan, I did manage to watch all three movies back-to-back. Still, I have to wonder whether even a three hour musical version can capture the breadth of the work without appearing to be on speed.
